Hooked by Catherine Greenman is not your typical pregnancy novel. There is no ‘ you will get pregnant and you will die.’ Hooked opens pretty. I am not a huge fan of teenage pregnancy so I wasn’t sure how much I was going to love Hooked, but Catherine Greenman does not try to.

Thea, intelligently on birth control, forgets to take a pill and ends up pregnant. Just because you have a child when you are young does not mean you life is over. Hooked also has a really satisfying ending.

And from the beginning on, their relationship didn’t work for me. The way Will acted in the second half of the book was completely unacceptable, and some of the things Thea says regarding will in the last chapter just made me shake my head, and I kind of felt catnerine for her.


The time line was difficult to follow. But one chat with Will, a handsome and witty senior, and she’s a goner—completely hooked on him and unable to concentrate on anything else. There’s really no hiding what the book’s about. Will just seemed like he had no personality to me – cookie cutter, maybe. The insta-love between Thea and Will in the beginning of the book was just so I think my biggest criticism is that while her life hooled realistic, it only was to a degree.

May 20, Hannah rated it it was ok Shelves: The secondary characters, even when I didn’t like them, had unique and strong personalities. At first thought of this scenerio, I could tell it was doomed for failure.

Carmen was so nice to Thea, helping her and all, and I really liked her. New York must be another planet where everyone has that kind of money.

It was a nice little side part of the story to hear about Thea working on learning to crochet and the special project she is working on. Maybe it’s that often, when I’m not liking a book, Hooied enjoying not liking that book. Will had a part time job and continued to go to college. I was also so frustrated that Will hookef out.


I loved Thea Galehouse. This books really makes me wish I lived somewhere where, instead of having to buy books online, I could go to a bookstore or library and take a look at the book, read the first page or so, before buying or borrowing it. Here, access to first-rate medical care is a given—including safe, legal abortion—and teen parents can rely on generous housing and financial safety nets from their own parents. And then after Ian was born, Will just started going downhill in my eyes.

Please give her your warmest welcome. For a story about pregnancy, time jumps are needed, yes. To begin with there was a lot of inconsistencies in the story, parts where the writing made no sense and I felt were just there to be a filler for the real juice.
