A series b and a series a RIO adapter. Both adapters Active and Fault lights come on briefly when powering up then go off. Does not matter which adapter I try with either processor. The OP provides minimal to no information, and gets a irritated when 171-asb questions are asked. You still have not 1771-asg any of the key information: What size is the local chassis? How are the local chassis dip switches configured? How was the remote chassis switches configured? How is the ASB configured? What cable are you using, did you properly terminate it?

To this issue, Point to Point RS communication at baud is not at all slow with these processors for no more data than is being manul. I could use but it is not neccessary. I have been using this method when needed with various equipment since the late 70s. I have developed several methods to communicate peer to peer as well.

We need the DIP switch settings all of them and the chassis sizes. From that, we can tell if you have addressing overlap or other issues. Having the program might help us identify how the local chassis is addressed but it doesn’t do much more than that. Unfortunately the only way to get the switch settings on the remote chassis is to remove power and pull out the adapter. Don’t forget the DIP switches on the remote chassis too.

Just two chassis in the config, “0” and “3” the remote being 3 of course. The active light blinking usually indicates that the processor is in either program or test mode. But I think it could also be a configuration issue.

Its been a long time since I did PLC-5 RIO Since you mention that you are using rack 3 with 1 slot addressing, that indicates the chassis is a 8 slot chassis – Is this correct? It is important to understand that chassis and rack in the PLC-5 mean different things. Chances are your PLC-5 chassis is using Rack 0, but it could actually be using also be using 1, 2, and 3. That’s right, manuzl one chassis could be using up to 4 racks. This is why we kept harping about dip switch settings.

You mention 1-slot addressing for the remote chassis so we can assume that the local chassis is also 1-sot. But we are risking things making that 1771-aasb. But, if that IS the case, then at most your local chassis if it is a slot unit would be using Rack 0 and Rack 1.


Again, manuak of assumptions. If you are using 1-slot addressing for the remote chassis and it is configured for Rack 3 then Mike is pointing out that anything larger than an 8-slot chassis is useless. So you must be using an 8-slot or smaller chassis. Again, an assumption since we don’t know. The flashing you describe does typically mean you are not in Run mode.

Your message when you 1771-asbb the autoconfig seems to bear that out. Tell us your switch settings. 1771-asn

S2 switches 2,3,4 should be off on the ASB and switch 1 should be on Goodness, How did I forget that Also double check the mznual dip switches. Manual says switches 4 and 5 set addressing mode.

It was configured correctly. Switch 6 was the manial Switch 2 did not seem matter but I set it as you suggested after setting only switch 6 to see if that was the culprit.
